The maxim, “Sports do not build character. They reveal it,” was validated at the 8th Sports Meet 2019, organized by ST Kabir IIS school for students from standard 5 to 9. The event was themed “MERI KAUM, MERRY KOM” and was a grand affair with a well-dressed ground adorned with colorful satin flags and platoons displaying their house colors.
The program began with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Brig CharanDeep Singh SM of 4 NCC, Vadodara, a hardcore disciplined soldier whose presence inspired the children. As per the school’s tradition, the students presented him with a potted plant as a memento, and everyone stood for the school song.
The school March Past followed, with the band display, victory run, lighting of the torch, and the Oath ceremony. The Chief Guest declared the Athletic Meet open, and the flower and bamboo drill followed. The synchronized movements of the students were a visual treat, and the tableau depicting the life of Mary Kom recreated the magical moments of the daring boxer’s life challenges.
Brig CharanDeep SM addressed the students, emphasizing the need for character-building through perseverance and discipline. His words about getting positive vibes from the school struck an instant chord with the students and faculty.
The track events then began, with the surge of adrenaline palpable as the students participated in 100m, 200m, relay, and hurdles races. The prize distribution took place simultaneously. The Tug-O-War event had the audience enthralled as the Houses pulled away to victory, showcasing their muscular strength and coordination. In the end, Nehru House won for the senior group, and Newton House won for the junior group, after a tense fight.
The parents also participated in the event, with a fun-loving caterpillar race for mothers and a 100m race for fathers. The energy and spirit of the children and parents were contagious and left the audience smiling.
The Naidu House won the Best House Trophy, and the children ran a victory lap to conclude the event. The band sounded the Beating of the Retreat, and the Founder Director received the school flag, followed by the National Anthem. The closing ceremony was spectacular and gave people reasons to return for the Annual Sports Day the following year.
