Life Skill Competitions, 2017

These competitions are aimed at developing basic life skills in children. They include skills and habits that empower them to be independent, capable and to find solutions for day to day tasks. The skills levels and activities are graded as per the age-group.

Getting ready for the school

Competition Date: 22nd July 2017

Children were expected to:

  • Wear socks and shoes.
  • Put note books, text books and a diary in the first compartment of the bag.
  • Put lunch box and the napkin in the second compartment of the bag.
  • Zip the bag and hang the bottle.

Participants were judged on the basis of time taken, efficiency and neatness in completing the given task. They used their own books, bag, shoes, socks, lunch box and napkin.

Folding the Clothes

Competition Date: 22nd July 2017

Children were expected to:

  • Wear socks and shoes
  • Fold their T-shirt, shoes and the napkin

Participants were judged on the basis of time taken, efficiency and neatness in completing the given task.

Peeling, Chopping, Dicing

Competition Date: 22nd July 2017

Students were asked to bring one tomato (medium size), a cucumber and a peeler. They washed the vegetables brought. They first had to peel the cucumber and then chop it using knife provided from the school. Tomato was supposed to be diced. Last step was to present the chopped and diced vegetable in the dish.

Towel Origami

Competition Date: 22nd July 2017

Students were given 20 min. for the activity and were expected to

  • Make use of the towels to create 3 different beautiful shapes (animals, flowers etc.).
  • Make sure that the presentation is neat and stays till judged.
  • Take care of the time allotted and should complete the task in time.

They were judged on the basis of

  • Cleanliness of the material (towels)
  • Creativity and complexity of the shapes prepared
  • Overall presentation (neatness of the folds)
  • Punctuality (task should be completed in allotted time)

Punching and Filing

Competition Date: 23rd July 2017

  • The children were required to punch the papers.
  • They were then expected to arrange the papers according to their sizes; i.e. longest and the biggest paper at the bottom and the smallest on the top. At last they filed the punched papers and put the press clip.

Gift Wrapping

Competition Date: 23rd July 2017

The children were supposed to wrap either their compass boxes or an empty box that they bring from home with the given news papers.

Stitch in Tme Saves Nine

Competition Date: 23rd July 2017

Students were asked to bring needle, thread, and scissors. Sides of the cloth had to be folded by using simple hemming stitch taught to them in the class. Last step was buttoning two buttons properly aligned in straight line as in their school Shirts.

Table Setting for 3 Course Meal

Competition Date: 23rd July 2017

Students were given 20 min. to complete the activity and are expected to

  • Bring all the required materials from home.
  • Maintain the discipline while working in groups.
  • Know the names of the three courses and the sequence of serving them.
  • Take care of the punctuality and should complete the task in time.

They were judged on the basis of

  • Cleanliness of the materials used and hygienic practice while handling them.
  • Accuracy of the set up as per the standards
  • Creativity in decoration (use of flowers, folding of napkins) and Overall presentation
  • Teamwork and discipline while working in group
  • Punctuality (task should be completed in allotted time)
