‘SPORTS DO NOT BUILD CHARACTER. THEY REVEAL IT.’

The maxim stood validated in the light of 8th Sports meet 2019, organised by the school ST Kabir IIS for std 5-9 students on the theme MERI KAUM, MERRY KOM.

The well dressed ground, punctuated with colourful satin flags and the smartly turned out platoons displaying the house colours, lent a grandeur to the event.

The programme commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Brig CharanDeep Singh SM of 4 NCC, Vadodara. A hardcore disciplined soldier’s presence was enough for our children to emulate . As per the tradition and culture of the school, the students presented him a potted plant as a memento .Every one stood for school song.

Next on schedule, the school March Past began followed by the band display, the victory run , lighting of torch and Oath ceremony. The Athletic Meet was declared open by the Chief Guest. Thereafter was the flower and bamboo drill . Beautifully synchronised movements were a visual treat.

The tableau depicting the life of Mary Kom recreated the magical moment of the daring boxer’s life challenges .

The Chief Guest, Brig CharanDeep SM, addressed the students laying emphasis on the need for character-building to develop through perseverance and discipline. His words that he gets positive vibes from the school struck an instant chord with students and faculty.

The action then shifted on tracks where the house spirit was palpable. 100 m. 200m, relay and hurdles witnessed the surge in adrenalin. The prize distribution took place simultaneously.

The Tug-O-War is an event which revolves around sheer strength and the co-ordination of the teams. It had the entire audience enthralled as the Houses pulled away to victory, engaging their muscular strength to the fullest. In the end, despite all odds, the Nehru House pulled a win for senior group and Newton house for junior group, thus ending a tense fight.

If the students were full of energy, the parents were no less. A fun loving caterpillar race was conducted for moms while 100 m race for fathers. Some of them toppled , some stumbled but kept their spirit and reached the finals.

Exuding energy young, the children ran a victory run, captivating audience leaving them smiling To conclude one of the most spectacular events of the year, the band sounded the Beating of the Retreat The grand celebration came to an end by handing over the school flag to the Founder Director, followed by National Anthem .The gathering dispersed after witnessing the closing ceremony that would give people reasons to return for the Annual Sports Day the next year as well.
